Thomas J Price: Matter of Place
This text accompanies Thomas J Price’s Matter of Place, a retrospective presented at Kunsthal Rotterdam in the Netherlands and Kunsthalle Krems in Austria. Thomas J Price has rapidly become one of the most important British artists of his generation. Celebrated for his large-scale figurative sculptures, Price’s multidisciplinary oeuvre bends conventions of material, scale, and presentation. His works confront preconceived attitudes towards representation and identity, inverting the viewers’ sense of familiarity and drawing their perceptual judgements into immediate question. Includes texts by Charles Gaines, Thomas J Price, Florian Steininger & Gary Topp.

Thomas J Price: Ordinary Men
This publication documents Thomas J Price’s Ordinary Men, his first solo exhibition in Canada curated by Justine Kohleal and presented at The Power Plant 22 June–2 September 2019.
Ordinary Men featured a series of sculptures in varying sizes both outside and inside the gallery, as well as photographs and a newly commissioned work. Thomas J Price's work challenges the erasure of black bodies within the traditions of classical sculpture. By placing traditional materials in dialogue with contemporary ones, Price invites us to reconsider the distinction between ‘high’ versus ‘low’ art, and to contemplate about the questions of who gets memorialized and what that gesture might mean in different contexts.
This publication includes a foreword by Gaëtane Verna, essays by Julie Crooks and Michael J. Prokopow, and a conversation between Thomas J Price and Lisa Le Feuvre.
